In a significant step toward democratising access to skill development resources, the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has launched SIA—the Skill India Assistant—an AI-powered chatbot on WhatsApp. Designed to bridge the gap between youth and skilling opportunities, SIA offers personalised career guidance and job recommendations in English, Hindi, and Hinglish.
This initiative aligns with the broader vision of ‘AI for All’, aiming to make technology-driven growth inclusive and accessible. Built in collaboration with Meta and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC), and implemented by Bengaluru-based startup Sarvam AI, the chatbot utilises open-source Llama technology to deliver intelligent, localised support.
SIA allows users to explore relevant skill development courses, find job roles suited to their profiles, and identify nearby training centres. With voice-enabled interaction, it’s especially beneficial for first-time internet users and those in rural or underserved areas, marking a leap toward digital inclusion.

The launch also highlights the growing role of Sarvam AI in India’s AI ecosystem. Recently selected under the IndiaAI Mission, Sarvam AI is tasked with developing India’s first indigenous large language model (LLM). Chosen from 67 applicants, the startup will receive government-backed computational infrastructure to build a voice-first AI model focused on Indian languages, targeting deployment at a national scale.
